The ministry noted that reports regarding an attack on a vessel in these waters emerged on July 25, 2026, prompting the government to clarify its stance on regional security.
Highlighting its status as a Caspian littoral state with permanent neutrality recognized by the United Nations, the ministry reaffirmed that it views the Caspian Sea as a zone of peace, harmony, and good-neighborliness. The government emphasized its ongoing commitment to maintaining stability within the body of water.
This diplomatic reaction follows claims made by Iran on Saturday, which alleged that Ukraine was responsible for attacking one of its commercial vessels. Tehran condemned the incident as an act of aggression, calling upon the United Nations Security Council, the European Union, and the international community to hold the perpetrators accountable. Iranian officials further summoned Ukraine’s charge d’affaires, warning that the incident would not go unanswered.
In response to the situation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on X that Ukraine had achieved "very strong results" through long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea. He specifically noted that these strikes targeted vessels involved in military cargo shipments linked to Iran, as well as a warship. Zelenskyy did not explicitly confirm the specific vessel cited in the Iranian accusations.
