Türkiye has formally welcomed the adoption of the Baku Declaration at the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). In a statement issued on the social media platform NSosyal on Thursday, the Turkish foreign ministry noted that member states have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace, prosperity, and stability across Asia through a spirit of common cooperation and regional ownership.

The ministry also expressed support for the admission of Laos as the 29th member of CICA, stating that this expansion will bolster the effectiveness of the organization. Furthermore, Türkiye welcomed the decision to extend Azerbaijan’s chairmanship for the 2026-2028 period, a move the ministry believes will ensure institutional continuity as CICA transitions toward becoming a fully fledged international organization.

In its statement, the ministry expressed gratitude to Ambassador Kairat Sarybay for his strong and dedicated leadership during his tenure as CICA secretary-general, acknowledging his contributions to the organization's growing international influence. The ministry also extended its best wishes to Ambassador Sultan Hajiyev, who has been appointed as the new secretary-general. Türkiye concluded its statement by affirming that it will continue to actively contribute to CICA activities in the coming period.
