Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz has officially commemorated the 10th anniversary of the failed July 15, 2016, coup attempt. In a message released on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal for Democracy and National Unity Day, Yilmaz reflected on the events as a historic turning point that has significantly strengthened the nation’s unity and state structure over the past decade.
Highlighting the events of that day, Yilmaz praised the citizens who responded to the call of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He noted that the public displayed a glorious act of resistance by defending their homeland, flag, and democracy at the cost of their own lives. He further remarked that Türkiye has emerged as a more resilient state, now operating with a democracy that is free from tutelary influences.
Looking toward the future, the Vice President reaffirmed the country’s ongoing commitment to its "Century of Türkiye" goals and its determination to build a future that is free from all forms of terrorism. As part of the commemoration, Yilmaz honored those who lost their lives during the failed uprising and expressed his gratitude toward the nation's heroic veterans.
