Türkiye and Iraq have officially reaffirmed their shared commitment to restoring full state authority in the Sinjar region. According to a joint press statement released by Türkiye's Communications Directorate on Sunday, both nations are determined to ensure the continuation of efforts initiated by Iraqi authorities to end the presence of the PKK terrorist organisation in the area.

This renewed pledge aligns with a formal agreement reached between the leaders of the two countries on September 23, 2026, which outlined the necessary steps to stabilize the region. As part of this ongoing bilateral cooperation, the Turkish government announced it will begin the process of gradually handing over the Bashiqa-Zilkan base to the Iraqi federal government, fulfilling a key provision of the leaders' previous accord.

To ensure the efficacy of these measures, both sides have decided to activate the Joint Security Coordination Committee. This body is tasked with the joint verification and monitoring of progress regarding the process launched in Sinjar, aimed at completely eliminating the presence of the PKK terrorist organisation.
