Türkiye’s Head of Communications, Burhanettin Duran, has issued a strong condemnation of a raid conducted on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem. The incident, which involved Israel’s national security minister and an extremist group, was described by Duran as an unacceptable provocation. According to reports from the Jerusalem Governorate, the raid occurred on Thursday as approximately 1,300 illegal Israeli settlers entered the compound to mark the Jewish holiday of Tisha B’Av, which commemorates the destruction of the temple.
Duran criticized the actions of the Benjamin Netanyahu government, labeling them as unilateral efforts to erode the historical and legal status of Jerusalem. He warned that such maneuvers serve only to escalate regional tensions and undermine the prospects for lasting peace. Emphasizing the stance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Duran stated that protecting the sanctity and historical status of the mosque is a shared responsibility of the international community, not just a regional concern.
The Turkish official reaffirmed that Ankara remains committed to defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and upholding the rights of Jerusalem in accordance with international law. He asserted that any attempt to target the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is fundamentally unacceptable.
