Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence is reportedly nearing an exit from the club this summer, with Italian side Inter Milan showing significant interest. Standard Sport understands that the Serie A club is preparing a bid in the region of £25.6 million for the English full-back, who is said to be open to exploring opportunities elsewhere.
Spence's standing has reportedly risen following an impressive World Cup campaign, and he is keen to leverage his recent form by seeking guarantees regarding his playing time. Manager Roberto De Zerbi has indicated that he cannot promise Spence the minutes he desires at Spurs and will not obstruct a move if the 26-year-old wishes to depart.
Currently, Spence finds himself as the second-choice right-back at Tottenham, behind Pedro Porro, who signed a new long-term contract in June. Although Spence can also play at left-back, his preferred position is right-back, and he believes his World Cup performances have earned him the chance to compete for a regular starting role.
While De Zerbi reportedly rates Spence, he also understands the player's desire to be a first-choice option during the prime years of his career. Ideally, Spurs would prefer not to sell a player who recently received praise for his performance in England's World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina. The club also aims to avoid selling to direct Premier League rivals, with Liverpool having shown tentative interest previously.
The reported fee of around £25.6 million is considered relatively low given Spence's current market value. However, without substantial interest from other clubs, Tottenham is realistic about the amount they can command for a player who has struggled to consistently perform at the highest level during his tenure with the club. It remains unclear if Spurs will sign a replacement for Spence, though De Zerbi has stated that the club is not yet finished with its transfer market activity.
