For travelers looking to explore the globe, the connectivity of a local airport is a primary factor in planning a journey. Global travel data company OAG has released updated findings detailing the most connected airports across Europe, highlighting which hubs offer the highest number of direct flight destinations as of 29 July 2026.
Istanbul Airport currently holds the title for the most connected airport on the continent, serving a total of 294 direct destinations. This ranking is bolstered by the presence of Turkish Airlines, which maintains a record for the highest number of countries served by a single carrier. Passengers flying through Istanbul can reach a diverse range of locations, spanning from domestic points like Antalya and Bodrum to international hubs such as Mexico City and Sydney.
Sharing the second position, Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol both provide direct access to 262 destinations. Frankfurt follows closely in fourth place with 258 destinations, while Rome Fiumicino secures fifth with 230. The list continues with Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas in sixth with 227 destinations and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat in seventh with 220. Munich ranks eighth with 211, followed by London Heathrow at 210 and London Gatwick at 200 destinations.
The remainder of the top 25 includes Dublin at 193, followed by Manchester and Milan Malpensa, which both serve 188 destinations. Zurich and Antalya are tied for 14th with 187 each, while Palma de Mallorca serves 185. Vienna follows with 182, Copenhagen Kastrup, Denmark – 17619, with 176, Athens Eleftherios Venizelos with 169, and Málaga with 166. The final spots are held by Paris Orly with 156, Lisbon with 153, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen, Türkiye – 14924, with 149, Oslo Gardermoen with 142, and Moscow Sheremetyevo with 124.
These figures are subject to frequent change. OAG determines these rankings by evaluating both the number of direct destinations served and the volume of scheduled connections on an airport’s busiest day. In 2025, London Heathrow was recognized as the world's top megahub under these criteria, followed by Istanbul Airport and Amsterdam Schiphol.
