Greek police have launched an investigation into the death of an 82-year-old man following a violent altercation at a beach resort on the Athenian riviera. The incident, which has been described by authorities as unprecedented, reportedly began as a dispute between two elderly bathers over a shortage of available sunloungers.
The argument quickly escalated into a physical scuffle, with reports suggesting that other individuals joined in the fight. The victim, who was at the beach with his wife, is believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest during the confrontation. According to the state broadcaster ERT, the 82-year-old sustained serious injuries and required an emergency transfer by ambulance to Asklepieion hospital in Voula. Despite medical intervention, the man died from his injuries at approximately 11 a.m. A post-mortem examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
In response to the violence, police have arrested a 76-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who was accompanying him. The manager of the beach resort has also been detained for questioning.
