Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes Arsenal should prioritize signing Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma during the current summer transfer window. The suggestion comes as the Gunners look for alternatives after failing to secure Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior, who recently committed his future to the Spanish club by signing a six-year contract extension.
Arsenal has been exploring various options to strengthen their attacking ranks, with players like Bradley Barcola and Nico Williams also linked to the club. However, Cascarino holds the Japanese international in high regard, telling talkSPORT that Mitoma is a scarily good player when he is at his best. Despite acknowledging that Mitoma faced a difficult season last year due to multiple injury issues, which limited him to just 19 Premier League starts and three goals, Cascarino remains a firm believer in his abilities. He described the winger as a dangerous asset who constantly looks to take on defenders, noting that Arsenal should consider him as a valuable addition to their squad.
Since joining Brighton from Kawasaki Frontale in 2021, Mitoma has made 113 appearances for the Seagulls, registering 23 goals and 11 assists across all competitions. His output last season saw him record three goals and one assist as he struggled with fitness concerns.
In other transfer news, Arsenal's interest in Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola faces significant competition from Liverpool. Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that while PSG is expected to sell the 23-year-old for approximately €150 million, the player appears to be leaning toward a move to Anfield. Barcola, who joined PSG from Olympique Lyon in 2023, has contributed 29 goals and 10 assists in 88 games and recently helped the French side secure a domestic treble during the 2024-25 season. Jacobs noted that should Arsenal enter the race, they would need to meet PSG's financial demands and hope that Liverpool withdraws from the pursuit.
