A player participating in the 10th season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) has been suspended and fined following a breach of the tournament’s Anti-Corruption Code. The individual, who is believed to be associated with the Salem franchise, was caught using a mobile phone within the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA). The player has been handed a suspension that will remain in effect until 2026, with 0 tolerance shown for such breaches.
As a result of the incident, the player has been barred from participating in the remaining matches of the league while an inquiry takes place. Additionally, the player has been issued a fine of Rs 1 lakh. While the exact nature of the breach is still under investigation, sources within the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) confirmed that the violation occurred.
The player, who is in his mid-20s, has previously represented Tamil Nadu in two first-class matches and one List A game. He also competed for the state in the Ranji Trophy last year. As a left-hand batter and right-arm medium pacer, his absence will be notable for the Salem franchise, which currently leads the points table.
TNCA officials were not immediately available to provide a statement regarding the situation. TNCA secretary Bhagavan DAs did not respond to requests for comment. The 10th season of the TNPL, which commenced on August 4, is scheduled to conclude with the final match on August 28.
