A 60-year-old woman has been awarded 50,000 kronor in compensation following a successful claim of age discrimination against a security firm. The incident occurred in November 2025, when the woman applied for a marketing manager position at the company. Despite feeling well-qualified for the role, she received no initial response from the employer.

When the applicant reached out to the hiring manager for an update, she was told that the firm was looking for "someone who was where she had been in 1994." Following this rejection, the woman sought assistance from her trade union, which subsequently launched formal legal proceedings against the company.

Hanna Mikaelsson, a representative for the union Akademikerförbundet SSR, criticized the company's justification for the rejection. "It is difficult to understand the reasoning: in what way would her competence have disappeared since 1994?" Mikaelsson asked. As the dispute neared a court hearing, the security firm offered the woman a 50,000 kronor settlement, which she has accepted.
