Swedish police shot and wounded an armed man outside the Royal Palace in central Stockholm on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred after law enforcement received reports of a disruptive individual carrying a weapon in the vicinity of the royal residence.

Responding officers opened fire on the suspect during the confrontation. Stockholm police spokeswoman Susanna Rinaldo confirmed that the man was struck by gunfire and subsequently transported to a local hospital. She stated that while his injuries are considered serious, they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Although police initially declined to specify what type of weapon the individual was carrying, Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that the man approached the palace guards while armed with a knife and requested to be shot. Rinaldo noted that while the police operation was ongoing, there was no remaining danger to the general public.

Authorities have since initiated a formal investigation into the incident. The police are treating the case as an aggravated knife offense and aggravated threats against a public official. No further details regarding the suspect's identity or motive have been released.
