AS Roma’s search for a marquee wide forward has hit a significant roadblock, as two of the club's primary targets have opted for different destinations. The Giallorossi have officially missed out on both Crysencio Summerville and Alejandro Garnacho, leaving the club's recruitment team searching for alternatives.
Crysencio Summerville, the Dutch winger, was in the final stages of negotiations before Al-Hilal intervened. The Saudi Arabian club successfully disrupted the deal by offering a package worth approximately €75 million to West Ham, which includes various bonuses. Furthermore, the player has been offered a contract that would see him earn €16 million net per season until 2031.
Simultaneously, Roma suffered a second blow regarding Alejandro Garnacho. Although the Argentine forward had been a long-term target for the club and reportedly waited for a move to the Italian side until the final moments, he ultimately chose to remain in the Premier League to join Aston Villa. Reports indicate that the deal fell through due to the structure of the proposals; the Friedkins had offered a loan with an obligation to buy that was conditional on Garnacho playing 60% of matches, whereas Aston Villa provided terms that were far more easily attainable.
These developments leave Tony D’Amico back at the beginning of his recruitment efforts. Meanwhile, manager Gian Piero Gasperini remains without the attacking reinforcements he has been requesting since the start of the pre-season, forcing the club to reassess its options in the transfer market.
