Professional wrestling legend Rey Mysterio has provided insight into why he has refrained from performing his signature diving seated senton move for the past four years. Since making his WWE debut in 2002, Mysterio has built a career on a high-flying, acrobatic style that has captivated audiences worldwide. However, this demanding approach has come at a significant physical cost, with the luchador previously revealing he has suffered ACL tears on 12 or 13 separate occasions throughout his career.
Speaking recently with Chicos Tóxicos, Mysterio explained that he effectively phased out the diving seated senton following his 619 finisher. He noted that the last time he executed the move was roughly four years ago during a match against Andrade. According to the veteran performer, the move became a major contributor to his recurring knee issues. He explained that if the landing was not perfectly guided, his knee would give way, directly leading to his ACL tears. Consequently, he now only performs such high-risk maneuvers with opponents he trusts implicitly.
In other developments, Mysterio has taken on a new role as the AAA general manager. During a recent segment on RAW, he met with Roman Reigns to announce a special tournament featuring top luchadores from RAW, SmackDown, and AAA. The competition aims to determine a challenger for Reigns' World Heavyweight Title. The tournament bracket has already been established, with first-round matches featuring Penta versus Laredo Kid on August 10, and La Park facing Psycho Clown on August 15. The final first-round bouts occur on August 17, pitting Dragon Lee against El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr., and Rey Fenix against El Fiscal. The eventual tournament winner is scheduled to challenge Reigns for the World Title on September 14 at a RAW event held in Mexico City.
