On Monday, August 3, the duo was observed training at the Wings Sports Centre in Bandra West, a facility managed by former India cricketer Jatin Paranjape. Despite intermittent rain and overcast skies across the city, the players were able to continue their preparations due to the academy's makeshift roof.
The focus on spin was a calculated move, as the upcoming two-Test series in Sri Lanka is expected to feature conditions heavily favoring spin bowlers. The practice sessions involved a variety of bowlers, including left-arm, leg-spin, and off-spin specialists. Among those bowling to the Indian openers was Mumbai stalwart Tanush Kotian. Former India selector Jatin Paranjape noted that while the players have been training at the facility for several days, the specific emphasis on spin was a direct response to the conditions they anticipate facing in the island nation.
Beyond his role in the training sessions, Kotian will accompany the Indian squad to Sri Lanka as a net bowler, alongside Harsh Dubey. The selection of these players as net bowlers follows the finalization of the main touring party. While the majority of the squad has already gathered in Mumbai, uncertainty remains regarding the travel status of Sai Sudharsan, whose inclusion was contingent upon passing a fitness clearance. Sources indicate confidence that the left-hander will join the team, either on the scheduled flight or later in the week.
India's tour of Sri Lanka includes a three-day warm-up match in Colombo beginning on August 7. This will be followed by the first Test in Galle, scheduled for August 15 to 19, and the second Test in Colombo, set for August 23 to 27.
