Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the bilateral relationship between Russia and Myanmar has evolved into a partnership defined by a "particularly trusting" character in recent years. During discussions with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing at the Kremlin on Tuesday, Putin noted that ties between the two nations have developed steadily since they were first established in 1948.

The Russian president emphasized that both countries are actively cooperating on international matters and highlighted potential opportunities to expand economic and security collaboration. Putin also expressed his gratitude to Min Aung Hlaing for Myanmar's support in developing Russia's relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Furthermore, he noted that Moscow and Naypyidaw should continue to advance joint economic projects already in progress.

During the meeting, President Putin offered condolences regarding the severe flooding in Myanmar, which he noted has impacted tens of thousands of people. In response, Min Aung Hlaing thanked Putin for the hospitality and recalled the assistance provided by Russian rescue teams following earthquakes in Myanmar last year.

The Myanmar leader described his nation as a "reliable country for Russia in Southeast Asia" and affirmed that Naypyidaw is prepared to further strengthen bilateral ties. The meeting occurred during Min Aung Hlaing's official visit to Russia. Separately, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin announced on Tuesday that Moscow has begun implementing agreements concerning the construction of a small nuclear power plant within Myanmar.
