The Mediterranean has emerged as the biggest winner from the success of The Odyssey, a film shot on IMAX 70 mm with cinematography by Hoyte van Hoytema. For those inspired by the cinematic experience, experiential travel specialists Pelorus have launched a new 14-night journey across Türkiye and Italy that allows you to follow in the footsteps of the legendary hero. While the original journey took Odysseus 20 years to complete, this modern adventure is billed as a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It is priced at £75,000 (€88,000) per person, based on a group of four people traveling.
Guided by a local author and historian, your journey begins in Türkiye with a private tour of the ancient city of Troy. You will also visit the Apollon Smintheion, where relief friezes depict the story of the Trojan War. As part of this introduction, you will get to see an exclusive performance of the fall of Troy among the ruins come nightfall. The trip then moves to Sicily, where you will stay in a hotel dedicated to Athena overlooking the Tempio di Giunone. From there, you will travel to Selinunte and stop at the Necropolis of Sant’Angelo Muxaro to hear about the legends of Minos and Hades.
After boarding a private yacht, you will visit the Egadi islands of Favignana and Levanzo, which were used as sets in the movie. A short hop in a helicopter will take you to Messina, where you can view a fountain honouring the city’s founder, Orion. Off-shore, you will pass through the Strait of Messina, home to the sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis. As the epic experience nears its end, you will spend time on Vulcano Island, home to thermal springs, the Venus Pools, the Grotta del Cavallo, and Grotte dei Rossi, as well as Basiluzzo, a rock formation featured in The Odyssey. Finally, the tour wraps up with a visit to Li Galli, said to be the home of the sirens.
Your tour includes private tours, thematic dining, and travel aboard a private yacht, and the entire experience can be tailored to your wants. Beyond this specific itinerary, you can also book trips focused on wildlife, food and drink, skiing and adventure.
