Noah Wyle, the 55-year-old actor, director, and producer, has been officially named People magazine's 2026 Sexiest Man Alive. The actor, who gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Dr. John Carter in the medical drama ER, received the honor following his recent work as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch in the HBO Max series The Pitt.

Reflecting on the announcement, Wyle admitted he was initially in disbelief. "I thought that sounded like a prank – just not in a million years did I think that this would be an honor bestowed on me," Wyle said in his People interview. He added that he expects to face some good-natured teasing from his friends and family regarding the title, joking, "I hope it’s just wine and roses, milk and honey from here on out. No, I don’t, but I am going to take a lot of ribbing from friends and family for sure." Beyond his acting accolades, he lightheartedly noted a secret talent for catching flies.

His performance in The Pitt has been met with significant critical success. Wyle secured the 2026 Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama, earned four Primetime Emmy Awards—including Outstanding Lead Actor wins in both 2025 and 2026—and received two Writer Guild of America Awards this year. Fans can expect to see more of his work when Season 3 of the series premieres in January 2027.

The Sexiest Man Alive competition, which launched in 1985 with inaugural winner Mel Gibson, is celebrating its 41st year. Wyle succeeds Jonathan Bailey, the star of Wicked and Jurassic World Rebirth, who held the title last year as the first openly gay man to receive the honor. Wyle joins a list of past recipients that includes George Clooney, Idris Elba, Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, Patrick Dempsey, John Legend, and Harrison Ford. The edition of People featuring Wyle’s cover story is scheduled for release on 9 November.

"Doctor, doctor, give me the news / I've got a bad case of loving you…"

Before more swooning occurs, he was referring to a secret talent for catching flies. Still impressive.
