Renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has given his signature "here we go" confirmation to Mohamed Salah's upcoming move to Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor.
The Liverpool legend is set to embark on a new chapter after the Premier League club announced in March that he would be departing Anfield. Liverpool allowed Salah to cut his contract short by one year to enable him to seek a new challenge. While summer speculations heavily linked the forward with moves to Major League Soccer or the Saudi Pro League, his destination has now pivoted to Turkey, with reports indicating a two-year contract and a €17 million salary.
The confirmation follows a wave of conflicting reports in Turkey. Last month, Turkish journalist Yağız Saffunçuoğlu reported that Salah had reached an agreement on financial terms with another Turkish giant, Besiktas, and that negotiations were ongoing regarding contract duration and image rights.
However, Besiktas swiftly and strongly denied those claims. Besiktas’ statement read: ‘The content posted by Yağız Saffunçuoğlu, a journalist, regarding the digital transfer process and transfer conditions discussed by our club is entirely fictional.’
The club further alleged that the journalist "has long been spreading reports fabricated at their desk, unrelated to the facts, regarding our club’s transfer procedures, and has been openly misleading the public." Besiktas urged fans to only trust transfer news shared through their official communication channels, stating, "As we have previously stated, the most accurate and transparent information regarding our team’s transfer procedures is shared with fans and the public through our official communication channels. We once again respectfully request that you do not trust any information or reports not announced through our official channels."
Despite the Besiktas controversy, Salah's move to Turkey is progressing, with Trabzonspor now positioned to secure the Egyptian star's signature.
