Hampshire chose to bat first on a slow and used pitch, struggling to find rhythm as the visitors consistently claimed wickets whenever the hosts attempted to accelerate the scoring. Openers Ali Orr and Nick Gubbins departed before the seventh over, but a 78-run partnership between Toby Albert and Jake Lehmann stabilized the innings. Albert was eventually stumped for 46, falling just short of back-to-back half-centuries. Lehmann, who has been a consistent performer for Hampshire this season with 952 runs across formats, contributed 68, while Ben Brown added 54 to help the side reach a total of 263.
