Liverpool Pursue Lille Winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo After World Cup

Liverpool have turned their attention toward Lille winger Matias Fernandez-Pardo as they look to bolster their squad under new manager Andoni Iraola. The 21-year-old caught the attention of several top clubs after delivering an impressive performance for Belgium during this summer’s major tournament.

The Reds are currently prioritising the acquisition of a versatile winger capable of playing on both flanks. This need has become more urgent following the departure of Mohamed Salah, who left Anfield on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract. Salah’s exit was part of a broader roster overhaul that also saw Andy Robertson join Tottenham and Ibrahima Konate sign with Real Madrid, both on free transfers.

Manager Andoni Iraola, who previously signaled his intent to recruit a new wide player during his introductory press conference, has so far only secured the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna. Liverpool’s initial pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande was thwarted after Real Madrid outbid their reported €100 million offer for the Ivorian.

Reports from French outlet L’Equipe suggest that Liverpool are now tracking Fernandez-Pardo, with Arsenal and Chelsea also monitoring the youngster's situation. While Fabrizio Romano has indicated that the Belgian could potentially leave Lille this summer as major clubs prepare bids, Lille president Olivier Letang has firmly denied that a move is on the cards.

“The player is under contract until 2029, and his departure is not a topic,” Letang stated. “We are counting on him, he knows that, and we have been very clear with him. He never had a release clause. Every player I told could leave has left. It’s the same old story as last summer, with yet another new agent.”
