Kinley Rasmus of Phenix City Little League has become a standout performer at the 2026 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The young athlete, who is the daughter of former Major League pitcher Cory Rasmus, has demonstrated exceptional skill both on the mound and at the plate, securing her place in tournament history.
Offensively, Rasmus has tied the all-time tournament record for a girl by recording five total hits. Her performance includes a critical RBI double to left field against California, which made her just the fifth girl in the history of the tournament to achieve a multi-hit game. During a game against Tacoma, Washington, she went 2-for-3, contributing an RBI and a run scored.
Her pitching has been equally historic. Rasmus has tallied 14 total strikeouts throughout the tournament, equaling the all-time Little League World Series record for a girl previously set by Mo’ne Davis. In her debut against Washington, she also matched the single-game record for a girl by recording eight strikeouts.
Following three consecutive victories, the Phenix City team has successfully advanced to the elimination round. They are scheduled to face West Side Little League from Hamilton, Ohio, this coming Wednesday.
Rasmus is one of only two girls competing in the 2026 tournament. Her athletic background is deeply rooted in baseball; her father, Cory Rasmus, played for the Atlanta Braves and the Los Angeles Angels during his professional career. Notably, Cory Rasmus also played for the same Phenix City Little League team, helping them reach the championship game in 1999. Her uncle, Colby Rasmus, is a former MLB outfielder who played for 10 seasons from 2009 to 2018. His career included stints with the St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros, Tampa Bay Rays, and Baltimore Orioles.
