Former Bangladesh captain and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Khaled Mahmud has officially returned to the organization, taking on a new role as a consultant for age-group cricket. The 54-year-old has signed a two-year contract to oversee the development of young talent.
Mahmud is no stranger to board operations, having previously held several positions, including chairman of the BCB's Game Development Committee. During his leadership of the Game Development Unit, he played a pivotal role in the team's success, notably when Bangladesh secured the Under-19 World Cup title in South Africa in 2020. Additionally, he served as the team director for the national side during various ICC events under the previous board's tenure.
Reflecting on his new appointment, Mahmud expressed enthusiasm for returning to a field he is deeply passionate about. "This is work I like doing. I have spent most of my coaching life in development and age-group cricket. When I was chairman of the BCB development committee, I tried my best to develop cricketers at that level," he stated. He noted that after his previous stint with the board, he continued to work as a coach for age-group players, making this new position an ideal fit. He added, "We won the Youth World Cup as well. The new role is an ideal one for me. I hope I will be able to do something good in these two years."
BCB officials reportedly prioritized bringing Mahmud back due to his significant contributions to the development of young players. The board believes his experience makes him exceptionally well-suited to mentor cricketers at the grassroots level.
