Left-arm orthodox spinner Joshua Bishop has earned his first-ever call-up to the West Indies Test squad. The 15-member team was announced on Thursday ahead of their upcoming two-match series against Pakistan, which is scheduled to take place in Trinidad from July 25 to August 6.
Bishop’s selection follows a dominant run in the West Indies Championship, where he claimed 91 wickets for Barbados Pride and the West Indies Academy over the last three seasons—the highest tally achieved by any bowler during that timeframe. The squad will be led by captain Roston Chase, with Jomel Warrican serving as vice-captain.
The team also sees the return of Kirk McKenzie, who is back in the fold after a two-year absence. McKenzie earned his recall following a strong showing in the recent West Indies Championship, where he accumulated 323 runs across six innings at an average of 64.60. His inclusion comes as a replacement for opener John Campbell, who has been ruled out of the series due to a left hamstring strain sustained during the recent One-Day International series against New Zealand. Additionally, Alzarri Joseph was unavailable for selection for personal reasons.
The series is set to begin at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, which will host the opening Test from July 25-29. This match marks a historic milestone as the first Test ever held at the venue, making it the 13th ground in the region to host the format. The second Test is scheduled for August 2-6 at the historic Queen's Park Oval. Currently, West Indies sits in eighth place on the ICC World Test Championship table, while Pakistan holds the final position.
