Iran Claims Netanyahu Pushes US Toward War to Avoid Prison

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a stern warning to Washington on Sunday, claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is actively attempting to pull the United States into another war with Iran. Araghchi alleged that the Israeli leader’s primary motivation for pursuing such a conflict is to remain out of jail.

Writing on the social media platform X, Araghchi asserted that Netanyahu is disregarding the potential consequences for both Israel and US President Donald Trump. Addressing the Israeli leadership, Araghchi stated, "Last time you wanted to ‘finish the job,’ Iran emerged even stronger. Want to try your luck again? Be our guest. But be careful; we have unfinished jobs too."

Netanyahu has headed what is described as the most right-wing government in Israel's history since taking office in late 2022. He currently faces domestic corruption charges that could result in imprisonment if he is convicted. Furthermore, he has been wanted by the International Court of Justice since 2024 regarding allegations of war crimes in Gaza. Within Israel, opposition parties have been increasing their coordination in an effort to replace his government through upcoming elections.

The current diplomatic and military tensions follow a series of escalations earlier this year. On February 28, the United States and Israel initiated military strikes against Iran, which were met with retaliatory actions from Tehran. Although a ceasefire was established in April and a framework agreement followed in June, hostilities resumed after negotiations between Washington and Tehran stalled.
