India secured a commanding 90-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday, successfully clinching the series with a 2-0 lead. The win was anchored by powerful half-centuries from Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, who combined for a crucial 94-run partnership in just 7.1 overs.
After Zimbabwe elected to field first, India faced early setbacks with the quick dismissal of Abhishek Sharma. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi briefly ignited the innings by hitting Richard Ngarava for three boundaries and a six in the third over, but Ngarava responded by dismissing him shortly after. Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer then stabilized the innings with a 66-run stand, carefully navigating a surface that proved difficult for stroke-making. Iyer, who scored 30, was dismissed by Brian Bennett in the 10th over shortly after finding his rhythm.
Kishan and Tilak Varma then took control, accelerating the scoring rate in the 14th over as Varma struck three boundaries off Blessing Muzarabani. Kishan, who was eventually caught at deep point for 81 while chasing a wide delivery, also cleared the ropes against Sikandar Raza. Late-innings contributions from Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Shivam Dube pushed India to a formidable total of 219/5.
In response, Zimbabwe’s chase faltered despite an aggressive start from Brian Bennett. Bennett fell to a reverse scoop attempt, triggering a collapse that saw the hosts reduced to 49/4 shortly after the powerplay. Prince Yadav claimed two wickets in eight balls but was forced to leave the field due to a left hamstring injury. Despite a brief resistance from Tadiwanashe Marumani, the Indian bowling attack remained relentless. Abhishek Sharma claimed three wickets for 17 runs, hastening the end for the hosts as they were bundled out for 129 in the 18th over.
Nonetheless, Ngarava had the last laugh as the southpaw miscued a hard length delivery and was caught by the fielder at mid on.
That dismissal triggered a brief collapse as Prince Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi left them reeling at 49 for 4 soon after the powerplay.
