Los Angeles FC forward Heung-Min Son has shared his genuine surprise regarding the stature and intensity of Major League Soccer since his arrival in the United States. As one of the marquee players on the Team MLS roster for this week's All-Star Game, the 34-year-old South Korea international reflected on how his perspective on the league has shifted since moving to Hollywood.
"Look, before I joined, I didn’t realise the MLS, you know like, how big that is, how people are taking it seriously. But ever since I arrived here I see that, how much they care about this league and how much they’re passionate about it," Son remarked. The forward has made an immediate impact for LAFC, recording 17 goals and 18 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. The club reportedly invested £20 million to secure his services following his departure from Tottenham Hotspur last summer.
Son’s successful tenure in London included 454 appearances, 173 goals, and 95 assists, capped off by helping Tottenham secure the UEFA Europa League title in 2025. Having succeeded club legend Harry Kane as captain, Son also offered his thoughts on the future of the Spurs leadership. With Cristian Romero set to depart the club ahead of the 2026-27 season, Son suggested that the captaincy should be handed to either James Maddison or Micky Van de Ven. He noted that Van de Ven frequently wore the armband during the 2025-26 campaign whenever Romero was sidelined due to injury or suspension.
