A high-level delegation representing the Palestinian group Hamas arrived in Cairo on Sunday to conduct critical negotiations regarding the ongoing Gaza ceasefire agreement. The group, led by Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, held discussions with Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad to address the implementation of the ceasefire and the broader roadmap for the region.
According to the Egyptian state-run Al-Qahera News channel, the meeting focused on completing the implementation of the plan proposed by US President Donald Trump for Gaza. In an official statement, Hamas expressed appreciation for Egyptian efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and reaffirmed its commitment to the plan, which aims to alleviate the suffering of the local population and initiate reconstruction efforts. Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem noted that the primary objective of the talks was to brief mediators on recent Israeli violations and to ensure Tel Aviv’s adherence to the established roadmap.
The Hamas delegation also used the platform to address broader political and field developments in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. They specifically highlighted daily Israeli violations and accused Israel of reneging on the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement and the roadmap proposed by President Trump. Furthermore, the group expressed deep concern regarding the treatment of Palestinian prisoners, characterizing Israel’s actions as a destructive policy that demands urgent regional and international attention.
In a separate development, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with Jared Kushner, an adviser and son-in-law to Donald Trump, in the city of New Alamein. During their meeting, the two sides discussed the situation in the Palestinian territories and the Middle East, with President al-Sisi emphasizing the necessity for all parties to fulfill their obligations under the Gaza agreement. He further stressed the importance of resolving regional crises to ensure long-term stability.
Since the Israeli army launched its offensive in October 2023, the conflict has resulted in over 73,000 deaths and more than 174,000 injuries. Despite a truce that has been in effect since October 2025, the region continues to face violence, with Gaza’s Health Ministry reporting at least 1,260 additional deaths and over 4,100 injuries resulting from continued military attacks.
