The club is looking to strengthen its attack with the addition of Ferguson, the Republic of Ireland striker. Ferguson has returned to Brighton, where he is under contract until 2029, following a loan spell at Roma that was largely defined by physical setbacks and limited playing time. In contrast, the interest in El Shaarawy is described as a more sentimental pursuit. The winger has been a free agent since his contract with Roma expired on June 30.
For El Shaarawy, a move to Genoa would represent a return to his roots, as he originally emerged from the club’s youth academy and made his Serie A debut there.
