A flash flood struck a tourist site in northwestern China on Sunday, resulting in 10 deaths and 23 injuries, according to state-run media reports. The incident occurred in the Shuangshimen Scenic Area, located in Weiyuan County within Dingxi City, Gansu Province. The area is situated in a rugged, mountainous region approximately 1,200 kilometres southwest of Beijing.
State broadcaster CCTV reported that the disaster was caused by short-term heavy rainfall, which triggered a mountain torrent that trapped campers at the scenic spot. Local officials confirmed that the injured individuals have been transported to hospitals for medical care. Additionally, rescue teams successfully evacuated 174 other people from the area.
While the region of Gansu was not in the path of Typhoon Noul—which caused high flood alerts across large parts of southern China on Sunday—it still experienced intense rainfall. Local authorities throughout the province have issued severe weather warnings, advising residents to stay indoors, follow safety instructions, and remain cautious as the weather situation continues to be monitored into Monday morning.
