Everton has secured the signing of Wales international Johnson, who has committed to a four-year contract with the club under manager David Moyes. The transfer, which involves a swap deal with McNeil, comes after Johnson's brief tenure at Crystal Palace, where he had moved in January for a fee of £35 million ($47 million) from Tottenham.
Reflecting on his move to the Merseyside club, Johnson expressed his enthusiasm for the team's trajectory. "There were a lot of reasons why I was so keen to join – the manager, the players, the direction the team is going in," he stated to Everton TV. "You can see this is a club that wants to go in the right direction, and I'm a player who wants to go in that direction too, so it feels like a really good match."
The 25-year-old previously experienced significant success during his time in London. He was an unused substitute during Tottenham's UEFA Conference League final victory and had scored the winning goal for the club in their Europa League final triumph 12 months earlier.
Regarding his departure from Crystal Palace, the player noted the success the squad had achieved over the previous two seasons. "The lads have had some great success over the last two seasons. It's something that I want to be a part of, so I'm really looking forward to getting started," he told the Crystal Palace website.
Everton enters the new campaign looking to improve upon their 13th-place finish in the Premier League last season, a campaign that concluded with a disappointing run of form but still left them two spots above Crystal Palace in the final table.
