Howe, 48, explained that his departure follows a period of personal reflection. In an official club statement, he noted that after nearly five years of dedicating his "life, heart and soul" to the organization with unrelenting energy, he believes it is in the best interests of both himself and the club to step away, recharge, and take a break.
The announcement arrived shortly after Howe oversaw a 4-1 pre-season friendly defeat against Bristol City on Wednesday. His resignation concludes a chapter marked by both significant achievements and recent challenges. Under his leadership, the Magpies secured Champions League qualification in 2023 and 2025. Notably, in March 2025, Howe led the team to a League Cup victory, successfully ending the club's decades-long wait for a major trophy.
