Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that the current year could mark the end of his professional playing career, potentially concluding one of the most decorated tenures in the history of the sport. The 41-year-old athlete shared his thoughts during an interview with Vogue magazine, which primarily focused on his recent marriage to longtime partner Georgina Rodriguez, held last Tuesday in the Portuguese resort of Cascais.
Regarding his future, Ronaldo stated, "this is probably my last year of football, and I want to leave a spectacular legacy." He noted that his path beyond the pitch is "all mapped out," though he acknowledged the difficulty of choosing just one focus among his many interests, which include travel and padel. Reflecting on the transition, he explained, "Because football could leave a big hole, you have to fill your time in various ways, not just one." He expressed a desire to enjoy the rewards of his 25-year career, noting, "we've earned. Because after all it's been 25 years with a lot of sacrifice."
Widely recognized as one of the greatest players of his generation, Ronaldo has achieved significant success, including five Ballon d'Or awards and five Champions League titles. His career spans league victories in England, Spain, Italy, and Saudi Arabia, alongside his status as the all-time top goalscorer in men's international football. He also famously captained Portugal to victory at the 2016 UEFA European Championship.
Currently signed to the Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr with one year remaining on his contract, Ronaldo has amassed 976 goals for club and country. He is now only 24 goals away from reaching the milestone of 1,000 senior career goals.
