Tensions between former Boston Celtics teammates Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown appear to have surfaced following the latter's offseason move to the Philadelphia 76ers. The speculation began after Tatum spoke to students at his annual basketball camp at the Wohl Recreation Center in St. Louis. During the session, Tatum emphasized the importance of humility, stating, "Being a leader doesn’t mean you know it all. I don’t know it all. Being around somebody that feels like they know it all, I don’t wanna be around that person. I don’t wanna be the smartest person in the room; I want to learn from somebody else."
Former NBA player Brandon Jennings was quick to react to these comments on social media. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Jennings wrote, "Motivational message my a*s lmaooo that's a shot at Jaylen Brown." This interpretation aligns with previous claims made by commentator Colin Cowherd, who alleged after Brown’s departure from Boston that the former Finals MVP had a reputation for wanting to be the "smartest guy in every room."
The partnership between Tatum and Brown, once considered one of the best duos in the NBA, concluded this offseason when Brown was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Paul George. Reflecting on the separation in a previous interview, Tatum admitted the situation was difficult, noting, "To be honest, it's weird. You play on a team with a guy for nine years. I was fortunate enough to go to the Finals with him twice, win a championship, and push each other to become the players we are today." Despite their past success, including a 2024 NBA championship, reports suggest the two have not spoken for some time, and their relationship appears to have significantly deteriorated.
