Afghanistan has announced a 15-player squad for their upcoming five-match One-Day International series against Ireland, notably excluding veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi. In addition to Nabi, Fareed Malik and Bilal Sami have also been left out of the selection following the team's tour of India last month.
The selectors have opted to recall pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi, while also adding Yamin Ahmadzai and Saleem Safi to the side. Rahmat Shah will captain the national team for the first time in his career, with wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz serving as his deputy.
The full squad comprises Rahmat Shah, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Darwish Rasooli, Azmatullah Omarzai, Ikram Alikhil, Nangyal Kharotai, Rashid Khan, AM Ghazanfar, Yamin Ahmadzai, Saleem Safi, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Zia ur Rahman Sharifi.
The five-match series is scheduled to commence on August 5 at the Bready Cricket Ground in Magheramason. The second encounter is also set to take place at the same venue on August 7. Subsequently, the teams will travel to Belfast to contest the final three matches of the series, which are slated for August 10, 12, and 15.
