FC Porto has officially opened direct negotiations with AC Milan concerning the future of Mexican international striker Santiago Gimenez. Reports indicate that Milan has set an asking price of at least €20 million for the centre-forward.
Gimenez is currently not included in the plans of coach Ruben Amorim for the upcoming term. The striker struggled to make an impact last season, appearing sparingly due to a severe ankle injury that necessitated surgical intervention. Following his recovery and his involvement with the Mexican national team during the World Cup, Gimenez has remained in Italy and was excluded from the squad's pre-season tour of Australia.
Despite his recent setbacks, AC Milan coach Francesco Farioli remains an admirer of the player, specifically citing the form Gimenez displayed at Feyenoord prior to his €30.2 million transfer to the San Siro in February 2025. The current proposal being considered by Porto involves an initial loan deal, which would include an option to purchase the player at the conclusion of the season.
While a potential loan move to Serie A rivals Lazio has been discussed as an alternative, sources suggest that reaching a consensus among all parties involved would be highly difficult under the current circumstances.
