A passenger train derailed near Wickford train station in Essex on Friday, marking the second such railway incident in England in as many days. British Transport Police reported that officers, firefighters, and paramedics were dispatched to the scene, located approximately 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of London, following reports that the rear carriages of the train had come off the tracks.
According to police, the derailed carriages remained in an upright position, and no injuries were reported among those on board. National Rail officials are currently investigating the cause of the incident, and passengers have been warned that major service disruptions are expected to persist through Friday afternoon.
This latest derailment occurred less than 24 hours after a separate incident involving a train traveling from London to Eastbourne. That train went off the tracks outside the town of Lewes in southern England. In that event, three carriages overturned, resulting in serious injuries to two people and minor injuries to 18 others. British Transport Police confirmed that all passengers from the Lewes crash were successfully evacuated within approximately three hours. Authorities have stated that the cause of both derailments remains under investigation.
