St Kitts and Nevis Patriots secured their first points of the season with a convincing five-wicket victory over Saint Lucia Kings at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, driven by excellent bowling from Saurabh Netravalkar and skipper Jason Holder.
Opting to bat first, the Kings faced immediate trouble as Netravalkar struck twice early on. Opener Andries Gous was dismissed for just four runs, while Ackeem Auguste departed for a three-ball duck. The Kings managed to rebuild their innings through a resilient middle-order partnership between Jewel Andrew and Kamil Pooran, who put together a dangerous 81-run stand. Andrew anchored the side with 58 runs off 42 balls, hitting two fours and four sixes, while Pooran provided rapid acceleration with 54 runs off 30 deliveries, including seven boundaries and three sixes.
The Patriots broke the threatening partnership when Pooran was run out. In the same over, Holder dismantled the Kings' progress by dismissing both Andrew and Charith Asalanka, reducing the batting side to 134/5 in the space of just five deliveries. Holder's disciplined spell yielded figures of 3 for 20, matching Netravalkar's 3 for 32, as the Patriots restricted the Kings to 155/8 in their 20 overs.
Chasing 156, the Patriots got off to an explosive start. Johnson Charles smashed 16 runs off just five balls, including two sixes, before falling to Matthew Forde. Kyle Mayers maintained the aggressive tempo, blasting 32 runs off 16 balls at a strike-rate of 200, featuring three fours and three sixes.
Following the quick departures of the openers, Player of the Match Andre Fletcher took control to anchor the run chase. Fletcher played a measured, unbeaten innings of 48 off 41 deliveries, hitting three boundaries and a six. He stitched useful partnerships with Kevin Wickham, who contributed 19 off 20 balls, while Dasun Shanaka (12 off 9) and Holder (10 not out) helped guide the chase home. The Patriots reached 156/5 in 17.4 overs to seal the win, despite a tidy bowling effort from Maheesh Theekshana, who took 2 for 22.
