President Donald Trump announced her upcoming departure on social media on August 12, praising her as "one of my most trusted aides." Leavitt had recently returned to work from maternity leave following the birth of her second child. Despite leaving her current post, she is set to remain a top adviser to Trump.
Reflecting on her decision, Leavitt shared her thoughts on X. "Being a mother and welcoming a new baby while working in one of the most demanding jobs in the world has been the most rewarding yet challenging season of my life," she wrote. "I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary."
Leavitt's tenure stands as one of the longer stints for a press secretary during Trump's presidency. Her departure marks the end of her time as the 5th person to serve in the role of White House press secretary under Trump.
