London Spirit concluded their Men’s Hundred 2026 season on a high note, securing a six-run victory against Welsh Fire in Cardiff on Wednesday. The result left Welsh Fire in fifth position, while London Spirit finished their campaign second from the bottom of the points table with their third win of the season.
Batting first, London Spirit struggled to find momentum, posting a total of 131 for 8. Jonny Bairstow provided the primary spark, scoring 34 off 19 balls, including sixes against Marco Jansen, Ferguson, and Chris Woakes. Despite his efforts, the hosts maintained pressure, dismissing Bairstow shortly after Lhuan Dre-Pretorius and Liam Livingstone were sent back to the pavilion. Jamie Overton provided a late boost with a quick-fire cameo of 21, hitting three boundaries and a six in just seven balls, but disciplined bowling from Woakes and Jansen restricted the total in the final overs.
The chase for Welsh Fire proved difficult from the start. David Willey struck early, dismissing Matthew Short in the opening set, and the hosts managed only 17 runs from their first 17 balls. Although Phil Salt and Joe Root attempted to build an innings with regular boundaries, their progress was hampered by a high number of dot balls. Jordan Cox offered resistance with a 28-ball 44, but the London Spirit bowlers tightened their grip as the match reached its conclusion. David Willey, who finished with 3-20, and Adam Milne, who claimed 2-23, held their nerve alongside Jamie Overton to defend 27 runs off the final 20 balls.
The late surge required by Welsh Fire never materialized. The Spirit bowlers dismissed Cox, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Rachin Ravindra in quick succession during the death overs. Needing seven runs off the final delivery, Marco Jansen was caught at deep mid-wicket, sealing the win for London Spirit.
