Lazio to Sign Frattesi with Inter Retaining Future Sell-on Clause

Lazio has reached an agreement to sign midfielder Frattesi in a deal that has drawn significant attention due to its unique financial structure. The agreement involves an initial loan move costing €1m, followed by an obligation to buy at the end of the season for an additional €14m, provided that specific conditions are met.

While Inter had maintained a €30m asking price for the player throughout the summer—a reduction from the €40m valuation held last season—the structure of this move effectively protects the club's long-term interests. Inter has secured a 50 percent sell-on clause, which effectively raises the potential total value of the player to €30m. This arrangement allows the Nerazzurri to potentially benefit from a higher transfer fee next summer if Frattesi succeeds in raising his profile through regular Serie A playing time.

From an accounting perspective, the deal remains viable for Inter. The club purchased the Italy international from Sassuolo in 2023 for €32.8m, and factoring in amortization, a sale at the €15m mark is expected to generate a profit of approximately €7.5m. The player, who turns 27 next month, is currently under contract with Inter until June 2028.

The move comes after interest from several other clubs throughout the summer, including Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, and Juventus. However, those parties were reportedly unwilling to meet the €30m valuation that Inter had set for the midfielder.

Suddenly, multiple sources confirmed Lazio had agreed to sign the player on loan for €1m with obligation to buy at the end of the season if certain conditions are met for a further €14m.

Initially suspected to be 20 per cent, it is now confirmed at being 50 per cent, which would raise the value of the player to €30m.
