Former US president Joe Biden is battling prostate cancer that has metastasized into his bones and other areas of his body, according to his son, Hunter Biden. In a wide-ranging interview broadcast late Friday, Hunter Biden grew emotional while describing his father’s condition, labeling it as a painful and debilitating situation that is difficult to witness.
Joe Biden, 83, served as the oldest president in American history. Throughout his four-year term, his age was a frequent topic of public concern. He and his administration faced significant criticism for allegedly obscuring the severity of his health challenges, particularly following his decision to withdraw from the re-election race after a widely criticized debate performance against Donald Trump.
The former president first disclosed his cancer diagnosis in May of last year, approximately four months after his departure from the White House. Hunter Biden noted that the family has struggled with the diagnosis, adding that he wishes his father would be more vocal about his discomfort. Despite the physical toll, Hunter Biden stated that his father remains active and continues to speak out on issues he finds important, driven by his enduring belief in the country.
During the interview, Hunter Biden also addressed the pardon he received from his father. He acknowledged that the decision is a subject of legitimate criticism and recognized its potential impact on the former president’s legacy and the public. However, he expressed personal gratitude, suggesting that without the pardon, Donald Trump would have pursued retribution against him. He challenged critics by asking how they would view his father had he chosen not to protect his son. The former president is scheduled to release a memoir titled Promise Me, America following the upcoming midterm elections.
