Arsenal have officially announced the acquisition of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. The transfer, which involves a fee of £75 million, comes after the North London club initially saw a lower offer of £60 million rejected by the Tyneside outfit. Despite Newcastle's desire to retain their captain following the departures of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur, the 28-year-old Brazilian informed the club of his desire to leave St James’ Park for Arsenal.
Reflecting on the move, Guimaraes expressed his enthusiasm in a statement, saying, "I’m so excited to join you. I will give you my best, I promise. I’m your warrior, I’ll never give up. Hopefully we can create many, many good memories together."
Guimaraes arrives at Arsenal as one of the Premier League's most highly-regarded midfielders, praised specifically for his passing range and goalscoring ability. Over his career, he has made 195 appearances across all competitions, contributing 31 goals and 32 assists. His recent form was highlighted by his instrumental role in helping Newcastle secure the 2024-25 League Cup, which ended the club’s 70-year wait for a domestic trophy. Internationally, he represented Brazil at the World Cup, where he started every match until the team was eliminated by Norway in the round of 16.
While Arsenal has successfully secured the midfielder, the club notably missed out on signing Vinicius Junior, who chose to extend his contract with Real Madrid until 2032.
The North Londoners initially expressed a willingness to pay a fee up to £60m, which was turned down by Newcastle.
