Ireland opted to bowl first in overcast conditions, with Mark Adair finding early movement. Although Adair started with a maiden, his bowling partner Jay Moondra struggled against Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Moondra, who conceded four boundaries and overstepped twice in his first two overs, eventually dismissed Gurbaz after the opener launched him for a six and a four. Afghanistan reached 65 for 1 by the end of the Powerplay, with Sediqullah Atal providing steady support.
