Namibia is set to host a major cricket event featuring South Africa and Zimbabwe, consisting of a T20I tri-series followed by a three-match ODI series against South Africa. Every match of the tour will be held at the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek.
The T20I tri-series is scheduled to begin on August 28 and will conclude with the final on September 6. Shortly after, the ODI series is slated to commence on September 9. These matches serve a broader purpose, as the tri-series is designed to lay the groundwork for the Africa Cup, which is scheduled for launch in 2027. This new competition aims to provide more African nations with the opportunity to compete at the highest level of the sport.
In a move to support regional development, all profits generated from the upcoming tri-series will be donated to the Africa Cricket Association to assist in the growth of the game across the continent. Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller expressed his gratitude, stating that the commitment from Cricket South Africa and Zimbabwe Cricket reflects a strong partnership and a shared vision for expanding cricket throughout Africa.
The three nations—South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe—are also joint hosts for the upcoming 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki noted that the tour is an important step in building excitement for that tournament. He added that the white-ball tour demonstrates a commitment to strengthening the game in neighboring countries while fostering anticipation for the ICC event co-hosted by all three nations.
