Jaydev Unadkat is scheduled to return to England later this week to resume his duties with Sussex for the remainder of their County Championship campaign. The veteran left-arm pacer, who has been associated with the county since 2023, is set to head back to Brighton to participate in the red-ball segment of the English season.
While English county cricket is currently focused on white-ball competitions such as The Hundred and the One-Day Cup, Unadkat’s contract is specific to the County Championship. Having previously featured in two matches this past June before returning to India, the bowler is expected to be available for all six of Sussex’s remaining fixtures. His return to the field is slated for August 20, when the team faces Warwickshire at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
Sussex, currently led by England seamer Ollie Robinson, sits fifth in Division One of the County Championship with a record of four wins, two losses, and two draws from eight matches. The side also featured Cheteshwar Pujara alongside Unadkat during the 2024 season.
Other Indian cricketers are also involved in the English county circuit. Yuzvendra Chahal is with Nottinghamshire, while Rahul Chahar is representing Surrey. Additionally, Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar are expected to return for the final stages of the championship following India's Test tour of Sri Lanka; Suthar previously played two matches for Warwickshire in June, and Kuldeep has been participating in the One-Day Cup for Yorkshire.
He was unavailable for the earlier rounds because of his IPL commitments.
The left-arm pacer has enjoyed considerable success with the county, claiming 57 wickets in 13 County matches at an average of 17.75 and a strike rate of 38.2, including one five-wicket haul.
