Russia and Ukraine traded accusations of launching overnight drone strikes on Friday, an exchange that resulted in two deaths and nine injuries. The ongoing conflict continues to complicate independent verification of these reports as both nations claim significant military activity.
In Russia, Governor Andrey Bocharov reported that five people were injured in the Volgograd region after a Ukrainian drone strike ignited fires at a fuel and energy facility and warehouses in the city's Dzerzhinsky district. Bocharov confirmed that emergency services were on the scene managing the fires. The online retailer Wildberries also confirmed that a fire broke out at one of its logistics centers in Volgograd, stating that there were no preliminary reports of casualties and that operations were being redirected. Separately, in the city of Gukovo, Rostov Governor Yury Slyusar reported that one person was injured when a drone struck an apartment building, causing floor slabs to collapse and necessitating the evacuation of residents.
Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed that its forces intercepted and destroyed 371 Ukrainian drones across the country, annexed Crimea, and the waters of the Black and Azov seas. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the regional military administration head for Dnipropetrovsk, Oleksandr Hanzha, confirmed that a Russian attack on the Nikopol district killed two people and injured three others. Ukraine’s Air Force asserted that it had successfully shot down 195 Russian drones over northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.
