Cam Skattebo Returns to Full Practice for Giants Training Camp

Nine months after a severe leg injury prematurely ended his rookie campaign, New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has returned to full practice participation. Beat reporter Art Stapleton confirmed during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" that Skattebo is showing no lingering effects from the ankle dislocation and open tibia fracture he sustained last season against Philadelphia. According to Stapleton, the running back looks to be at full strength and is currently positioned as the team's primary back.

Head coach John Harbaugh is reportedly prioritizing a run-first offensive identity this season. With senior assistant Greg Roman on the coaching staff, the team believes that quarterback Jaxson Dart will be most effective when operating within a power running attack. Stapleton noted that the organization remains committed to establishing the ground game as the core of their offensive strategy.

General manager Joe Schoen addressed concerns regarding Skattebo's recovery during training camp at The Greenbrier in West Virginia. He confirmed that the player is participating in all drills, dismissing any worries that a recent viral backflip attempt at Fanatics Fest had hindered his progress. Schoen emphasized the need for the young player to remain conscious of his actions regarding both health and public perception while navigating his growing profile in New York City.

Despite Skattebo's return, the team is still evaluating its depth. Stapleton indicated that Harbaugh may look to add further competition to the backfield before the end of training camp, though such a move would serve as insurance rather than a replacement for Skattebo. The focus remains on whether the running back can maintain his health, especially after showing flashes of high-level performance during a four-game stretch last season. With receiver Malik Nabers also working his way back from a season-ending knee injury and Dart entering his second year, a healthy Skattebo is viewed as a vital component in building the Giants' identity.
