Milan coach Ruben Amorim has opened up about his time at Manchester United, acknowledging that he made a significant number of errors during his tenure at Old Trafford. Speaking to the media in Perth, Australia, where the squad arrived on Monday for a friendly tournament involving Inter and Serie B side Palermo, Amorim reflected on his transition to Italy. He noted that the experience was not solely the fault of the club, stating that he has learned from his failures to become a better coach and a better man.
Amorim emphasized that he was brought to Milan not just for his past successes, but for the reflections he shared with Mr. Cardinale regarding his experiences at a top-tier club like Manchester United. He explained that the club's management understood his preparation was shaped by both triumphs and setbacks. Regarding his time in England, Amorim stated that he has moved on, focusing instead on the new challenge of leading Milan to a different level. He highlighted the importance of representing the city of Milan properly, citing its status as a fashion capital and the need to respect the club's history.
The coach expressed his pride in managing Milan, a club he has supported since childhood, and noted that he has already been in contact with club figures such as Massaro and Baresi. He is currently focused on rebuilding the team, noting that he enjoys taking on projects where teams are struggling. In addition to his tactical goals, Amorim confirmed the club's commitment to experience, specifically mentioning the recent contract extension of Luka Modric until 2027. Addressing speculation surrounding Rafael Leao, who has been linked with potential moves to Turkish clubs like Fenerbahce, Amorim remained focused on team cohesion. He stated that he plans to speak with Leao, Ramos, Saelemaekers, and other players returning from the World Cup, maintaining that the team remains the most important priority while noting that Leao is an AC Milan player until something else happens.
