Napoli coach Max Allegri stated that the club will "evaluate what we have at the end of the transfer market" after his team secured a 2-0 friendly victory against Carrarese. Rasmus Hojlund and Giovane scored the goals for Napoli in their second pre-season match.
Hojlund opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, capitalizing on a rebound from an Antonio Vergara attempt. Before halftime, Vergara was fouled for a penalty, which Giovane successfully converted.
Matteo Politano's shot hit the crossbar for Napoli, while Carrarese also struck the woodwork through Abiuso. In the second half, Alex Meret made a significant save on a shot from Cisse. Napoli finished the match with 10 players after Vergara limped off with a left knee issue with 10 minutes remaining. As all substitutions had been made, he remained on the touchline with an ice pack.
Allegri commented on the team's performance, saying, "I have no doubts on the quality of my players, but then they need to be worked with and we’ve got to improve our fitness levels, because the start of the season is coming up."
Addressing potential defensive reinforcements amid injuries to Alessandro Buongiorno and Sam Beukema, and Juan Jesus's departure as a free agent, Allegri deferred to the club. "The club will think about the transfer market, my job is to coach the players," he replied. He noted that "practically all the Italian clubs are static on the market" and that Napoli will "calmly evaluate what we have at the end of the transfer market" after three more friendlies.
"It was a good test, we did some things better than last time, and we didn’t concede any goals," Allegri added. He emphasized the need for a strong squad and individual commitment for the upcoming season, which includes three top competitions. "In order to do that, we must lay the foundations, and in the first six months do everything so we’re ready in March to play our cards in all three competitions," he concluded.
Napoli's first-half lineup was: Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Marianucci, Spinazzola; Anguissa, Lobotka, Vergara; Politano, Hojlund, Giovane. The second-half lineup was: Contini; Mazzocchi, Rafa Marin, Obaretin, Garofalo; Vergara, Prisco, Folorunsho; Baridò, Cheddira, Pereyra.
